Types Of Reactions And Balancing Equations

Reactions can treated as the heart of chemistry. The types of reactions and balancing equations are very much important in the study of chemistry. Chemical reaction is actually a process of transformation. Through this transformation process the chemical substances can change their forms. Because of the chemical reaction, the chemical bonds are broken and changed into newer form because of the reposition of the electrons. So, chemical reactions can be considered as the chemical changes.

The way to describe the chemical reactions is the chemical equations. A supportive environment like appropriate temperature, right atmosphere are required for chemical reactions. To get the desired final product, the different chemical reactions can be required.

The chemical reactions can be expressed through chemical equations. So, the equation ahs two sides. The left side shows the raw materials for the equation and the right side shows the final products of that equation. The two sides can be separated by the arrow sign, equal sign.

While searching for the types of reactions and balancing equations, four types can be found. These are discussed below:

Synthesis reactions:

This is the simplest form. Here, two or more element work as the reactants. These are the reactants can produce only one final product. One example is given below:

A and B can produce AB

so, by this way, the single reactants produces a complex final product.

This equation can be balanced by this way:

A + B = 2AB.

Decomposition:

Decomposition is just opposite to the Synthesis reaction. Here, one complex reactant breaks down into two or more final products. Here is the example:

AB can be divided into A and B

So, the balance can be made by this way:

2AB = A + B

Single Replacement:

In this type reaction a reactant is replaced by another. The form is like this:

A and BC produces AC and B.

In this type of reaction, only a single one is replaced by another.

Double Replacement:

Among the types of reactions and balancing equations this one is very similar to the previous one. The only change is that it has double replacement instead of single replacement. So, two changes are made. An example is given to make it clear:

AB and CD produce AC and BD.

so, these are basically the main four types of reactions and balancing equations.

Besides these, another two types can be considered. These are:

Combustion:

When oxygen is used as the reactant and it joins with reactants and thus produce carbon-dioxide and water then it is called Combustion. This reactions produce heats.

Here is an example:

C10H8 + 12 O2 = 10 CO2 + 4 H2O

Acid-base:

This is actually double displacement reaction. When an acid and base act as reactants then it is called Acid-base reaction. Normally, water and ionic salt are produced as the products of this type of reaction.

Here is an example of acid-base reaction:

HBr + NaOH = NaBr + H2O

Here Hidrobromic and Sodium hydroxide are worked as the reactants.

So, these are some of the types of reactions and balancing equations.
