Types Of Learners
There are very many ways through which different people learn information and therefore a teacher must be aware of the existence of different types of learners. But since the pride of a teacher is to make his or her students successful by first grasping all the concepts he or she teaches, there is a necessity to know the ability of each and every single student.
It is important that the teacher classifies the students in such a manner that handling them and delivering the content becomes very easy.
Generally speaking, there are four different types of learners with different abilities. Let’s have look at these four categories of learners:
Reflexive Observation and Concrete Experience Learners
These types of learners are very aggressive and in most cases they will always participate actively in class work. The do this by asking questions beginning with ‘Why’ since they are always out to find out why some things happen way they do. These are normally referred to as innovative learners.
They try their best to learn new things every day and are also keen to add some value to their bank of knowledge. They are active participants in brainstorming sessions and cooperate fully with their teachers. Such kind of learners follow instruction and are rarely found making obvious mistakes.
Abstract Conceptualizing and Reflective Observation
This is the second group of learners who are described as Analytic Learners. Most of the question they ask begin with ‘What’.
These learners mostly acquire facts and they enjoy analyzing data besides doing independent research. Most of these types of learners like their teachers and technicians as they tend to get a lot of knowledge from them.
Common Sense Learners
These types of leaners fall under the group of Active Conceptualization and Abstract Conceptualization. Most of the questions they ask begin with ‘How’. They are keep listeners and are very aggressive always ready to try what they have learnt on their own.
Concrete Experience and Active Experimentation
These types of learners are also called Dynamic Learners. These learners like discovering things on their own while they teach themselves what they have learnt besides teaching others as well. They should be taught techniques such as simulations
These are the four major types of learners found in any class environment. At times, some learners might share either of the four properties. Therefore it is upon the teacher to identify the kind of potential his or her learners have.
On the same note, learners can also be said to either quick learners or slow learners. For the case of quick learners, they will always grasp the concepts as soon as they are taught whereas slow learner s may take some time before they can grasp the same concept.
It is very important for the teacher to understand these disparities.
Another problem come on how long a student can retain knowledge in his brain. This should also be established through test as it’s the only way to know those who can retain knowledge for a very long period of time or for a short period of time.
