Types Of Trees Used For Lumber

Lumber is the cutting and preparation of trees so that it can be transported and used in order to make furniture and there are different types of trees used for lumber because every one of these types has their own advantages and qualities. The lumber can also be used to make boards (which is what it is primarily used for) though it has other uses as well. Since every product that is made from different trees has its own use, there are different types of trees used for lumber.

The Black Walnut is one of the many types of trees used for lumber. These are known to have amazing grains and their natural color makes them all the more suitable for lumber. These are used to make bowls, furniture and gun stocks and they are also used in order to make veneer which is applied on cabinets. This way fine cabinets of great quality can be made and they also look beautiful. These types of trees are very sturdy and they can resist high moisture levels due to which they are used to make furniture. They can endure changing weather conditions and are very useful in other ways too. Bumps, poor grains and cracks and holes are not something one needs to worry about if these types of trees used for lumber have been used to make furniture.

White Ash is another of the many types of trees used for lumber and they are mostly used in order to make sports equipment such as bats (baseball or cricket), wickets and even bowling alley floors. They age well, are resistant to moisture and can be used to make cabinets and for architectural purposes as well. It takes about 20 years for these types of trees used in lumber in order to mature.

White oak is also one of the types of trees used for lumber but the problem is that you would have to wait for 60 years, at least, so that the trees can mature and be used for lumber. It is used for high quality veneer, much like the Black Walnut, and has beautiful grains. These, too, are resistant to moisture and are used in ways that are similar to the uses of the black walnut.

Big leaf maple trees those types of trees for lumber that are used to make molding, plywood, musical instruments such as pianos and the wood has fine grains. They cannot be used to make high quality veneer though thin veneer can be made from this instead and they are also used to make furniture and such like.

These are some of the many types of trees used for lumber and though there are many more, these are the most commonly used ones that exist. You will see that though they may be used for similar purposes, their qualities vary which is why some of them may be given preference over the rest but every one of these are used for similar and different purposes, both.
