Types Of Processors In Computer

What are the types of processors in computers? Since the invention of computers, the types of processors in computers have been have been changing to remain relevant and satisfy all consumer’s needs. Currently, there are only two companies dominating in manufacture of various types of processors in computers. Classification of these processors can be done with quite a number of factors in mind which include cost of the processor, the manufacturer, performance etc.

The first types of processors in computers are the mainframe processors. These types of processors are very powerful as they perform quite a number of tasks as in most cases they act as servers. They are incomparable to the ordinary computer processors.

These types of processors are further classified depending on the type of data processed. That is it can be either EBCDIC or ASCII. Under normal circumstances, if these two types of processors in computer are to process say later “A” then the EBCDIC will have its hexadecimal form as 45 while the ASCII will have its hexadecimal form as C1.

In normal computers, the various types of processors in computers can either be classified as the:

• High-End processors

• Mid-End processors

• Basic/ Economy processors

The above classification is based on these processors performance. The first types of processors are designed for intense processing purposes such as the intense computer graphics. They are very expensive but not as the mainframe processors. Examples are the core i3, core i5, core i7 and core i9 all manufactured by the leading processor manufacturing company the Intel Corporation. These types of processors in computers are suitable for both multi-threading and multitasking.

The second types of processors in computers are the Mid-End processors.

They include the Intel Duo/ Solo, Intel Core 2 Extreme among other types all from the Intel Corporation and the AMD Turion from the AMD Company which competes with Intel Corporation in the production of various types of processors in computers.

These processors are made for average computer users. It may be ordinary photo editing, basic gaming, moderate data analysis etc. Although these types of processors in computer are expensive, most of the average income earners can afford to own computers with these processors.

The last types of processors in computers are the Basic/ Economy processors.

Examples of these types of processors in computers include Celeron, AMD Sempron, Centrino Duo, AMD Athlon, Intel Centrino, Intel Atom etc. Computer systems with these types of processors in computers are the cheapest and they are made for simple office work such browsing, word processing and no serious photograph or other serious graphic related can be done using these types of computers.

Computer processors can also be classified depending on the processing speed. The most recent types of processors in computers have an average processing speed of 1 gigahertz making them to be much faster.

Another significant part which also distinguishes the modern processors from the earlier one is the number of bits which they can process. Presently, there are 64 bit types of processors in computers and still there’re speculations that it might be higher in a couple of years to come.
