Types Of Dog Ears

All types of dogs have different types of dog ears and what is different about them is how they are shaped though all dogs are able to hear high and low pitched sounds and noises which is why these creatures are used even by police departments. Usually the types of dog ears vary from one dog to another and from breed to breed mostly. Also, the type of dog is also what would determine the types of dog ears. By way of example, attack dogs generally have pointed ears that stand upon the slightest movement while a show dog like the cocker spaniel has droopy ears.

The bat ear is one of the many types of dog ears that can be seen in dogs. If you look at their shape, these types of dog ears are generally big and triangular and they tend to be much larger than the head of the dog. Chihuahuas usually have bat ears- these are long and have pointed towards the tip. They are very noticeable because of how distinctively pointed they are!

Another of the various types of dog ears are the blunt tipped ones. If you compare these to bats ears, you will notice that these dogs, literally have ears that are blunt or more round tipped towards the end of the ears. These types of dog ears are large too and you can usually see how big they are when the dog tries to listen to sounds or to his/her owner. Chow chows and French bulldogs are dogs have these types of dog ears.

Chopped ears are also one the many types of dog ears and the reason they are known as chopped ears is because they are actually cut at birth. It is because of this that their ears stand whenever they hear noises and sounds. Doberman and the Great Dane are two dogs that are examples of dogs with such types of dog ears.

Folded ears are one of those types of dog ears that actually resemble the hair of a guy or girl with long curly hair. They hang loosely and in folds and not hang flat. Most field spaniels and blood hounds have these types of dog ears. The Basenji has hooded ears that are called so because they tend to be curved from the inside and on the insides as well and so they literally look like hoods!

Then certain types of dog ears are known as rose ears and these types of dog ears simply fold backwards. You can see these in bulldogs and Greyhounds as well. The prick ears are one of those types of dog ears that you will see on German Shepherds. They are either naturally born with these types of dog ears or they simply can get cropped to make these types of dog ears instead.

Semi tipped dog ears fold above and pitbulls usually have these types of dog ears. These are just some of the many types of dog ears.
