Types Of Research Reliability
When it comes to research, you need to ensure that the material you have come up with is reliable and that is where the types of research reliability are important. There are various types of research reliability tests and methods but they all have one common purpose- to determine how useful and reliable a research paper is. These types of research reliability tests basically help determine and validate any work that is sent by the researcher. The more valid and reliable a piece of researched work is, the more people would trust it and the higher the chances of it getting published.
One of the many types of research reliability is the one that is known as face validity in which case it is tested whether a particular technique is such that it needs to measure a particular variable. By way of example, every time a person, taking part in research, is asked to hit a button upon seeing particular types of picture on the screen, the time it takes for him to do so is known to be part of face validity.
Then, there are those types of research reliability where new and old methods of measurements are compared to one another in order to analyze whether they give the same result in regards to a particular variable. Both methods could give different measurements in which case the research may not be said to be reliable and the researcher would have to ensure that the material he is including is such that the old and new methods give the same result. If the same result is not given, he would have to reconsider his decision. That is because some form of weakness would be revealed in the researcher’s work. This is known as concurrent validity.
Predictive validity is also one of the many types of research validity. The construct is measured here in a manner that the behavior of the construct can be predicted. It is believed that though there are certain weaknesses and faults with these types of research reliability tests but the good part is that one is able to measure the basic trend accurately to a major extent which is why these are still used and are considered to be relevant.
When the construct and the variable behave in the same way the types of research reliability validity involved is known as construct validity.
There are some factors that tend to have an impact upon the types of research validity and these also tend to weaken the types of research validity. If the results found are not found to be valid then, they are irrelevant and are considered to be meaningless to a study or topic. The result can no longer be used to answer the question or topic the researcher is researching upon as well. Some studies and research may be valid for one study but may have nothing to do with another or it may not give the same result where other topics are concerned.
