The different kinds of migraine are actually chronic headaches that occur sporadically, or when it is triggered by different risk factors. Classification of migraines is dependent on its severity, which in turn is dependent on the pain threshold of the individual. A typical migraine attack affects a part of the head, and is said to be pulsing and long lasting. Some migraine sufferers endure the pain for two hours minimum, although some types of migraines last for three days.
What could be causing your migraine? Migraines arise because of changes in temperature and due to genetic causes. People prone to migraines usually have relatives that suffer from the same ailment. Here are the different types of migraines.
Stress migraines. These types can occur on a daily basis, when stress levels are high. Too much clutter in your thoughts could give you chronic headaches that may progress to a migraine. The early symptoms include pulsing in the temple along with sudden bursts of pain in one area of the head. Many adults as well as adolescents suffer from daily migraine symptoms because they are under stress. Remedies would include an ice pack on the affected part of the head, as well as staring at landscape and peaceful scenery.
Cluster headaches. While known to occur after the symptoms are ignored, these types of migraines can be prevented. This is not as common as stress migraines, but the pain is more intense. The sufferers describe this type as piercing and even blinding. The pain on the affected side of the head starts as a throbbing sensation, while the blinding or searing pain comes sporadically. The person experiences this kind of headache for a few minute to an hour.
People associate cluster migraines with lack of sleep, dehydration and lack of nourishment. However, people that have slept well during the night and decided to sleep again in the afternoon may also experience these types of migraines. Thus, oversleeping may also be a risk factor.
Sinus migraines. Sinus migraines are connected with the area on the face very close to the sinuses, such as the cheeks and forehead. Risk factors for these types of migraines include sudden movement of the head and sinusitis. Some people who are prone to sinusitis may experience tension around the sinuses at the onset of a cold.
How to deal with the different types of migraines?
First aid for migraines may be to take over-the-counter medication for pain such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. However, there are also some ways to remedy the pain without drugs. The sufferer can try reclining his chair so that the head and shoulders are relaxed. Sleeping when the pain is too severe may not be an option, but the person can close his eyes and practice deep breathing exercises to relieve the pain.
