The bachelor’s degree
This is the more common of the two types of undergraduate degrees, which is usually awarded after 4 years of study. Some institutions equally have provision for completion of this program within 3 years.
There are different types of undergraduate degrees in the bachelor’s level. The type you eventually graduate with will depend on your major. They include, Bachelor of Arts (or B.sc./B.S.), Bachelor of Arts ( or B.A.), Bachelor or Commerce, ( or Bcom), Bachelor of Fine Arts (or BFA), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
Associate degrees
These types of undergraduate degrees are usually awarded after 2 years of successful study at colleges. Associate majors are always in vocational areas like hospitality management, graphic design, accounting, computer information systems, or health sciences.
These types of undergraduate degrees provide options for people are looking for a shorter program and do not want to commit themselves into a four-year study program for a bachelor’s degree. After completing the associate program, graduates can further their education and earn a bachelor’s degree after 2 more years of study. The associate types of undergraduate degrees are ideal for people who would want to work to raise money for a s3econd program for their bachelor’s degree.
There are equally other types of undergraduate degrees, tough these are specifically designed for higher studies.
Pre-professional programs
The pre-professional types of undergraduate degrees are meant to prepare pupils for advanced study in a specific career. Common degrees available in this category are in medicine, engineering, and law. These courses would normally prepare you to enroll into professional degree awarding programs like the medical school or law school after your graduation.
As you go through any of these types of undergraduate degrees, you status will change from the first year to the final year of your study. Usually, you will begin as a freshman and progress through sophomore to the senior level.
The freshman year which is your first year in school, you will be introduced to basic courses from a variety of subjects. Here, you will be exposed to core academic courses that will help you expand your skills. You are also going to take some introductory courses that relate to your core course of study. For example, If you want to major in business, then economics will be part of the courses you will offer.
Sophomore is the second year where you are expected to take advanced level of the courses you did in your freshman year. Here, you have the option of selecting courses you are comfortable with.
Junior is your third year and by now you are already focused on the core courses that will lead to the award of the degree you applied for. You will be expected to take advanced courses at this level.
Senior: This is the fourth and final year of your program. Here, you will prepare and take your final exams prior to the award of any of the types of undergraduate degrees you entered for.
