Types of testing on animals have always been a highly debatable topic. All large corporations and universities go for different types of testing on animals when they want to get their products tested for human safety. Likewise, there are different types of testing on animals.

What is animal testing?

Different types of testing on animals is generally done to see how a product responses in effect to the environment, animals and humans. The need for different types of testing on animals comes from agricultural chemicals, household products, pesticides, cosmetics, food additives and medicines. Different types of testing on animals in research give researchers an idea on how it will affect humans and whether it is safe for use. Although there is a strong disagreement among people against cruelty to animals, it still is in practice and a lot of animals are being a part of this testing phase.

What are the different types of testing on animals?

There are generally three type of testing on animals:
* product testing
* research testing
* training and education testing

product testing is one among the different types of testing on animals used by cosmetic companies, household chemicals and cleaners, soaps, health products and pesticides. These products are first tested on animals to know if they are safe for human use.

* Draize eye testing is done on animals like rabbits to know how chemicals affect the eyes. For this chemicals are placed on the animal’s eye to know the results.

Research testing is other types of testing on animals that are generally used by the medical field. This is the testing of medicines and drugs or procedures on animals to know if they are safe for human consumption and use.

* Skin corrosion test – is done on animals to know if there is any irreversible skin damage caused by the use of different products. The ear of a mouse is generally used for skin sensitization test to know if there is any allergic reaction. Likewise, rats are generally used to test the absorption of any chemical inside the skin and see if there are any side effects to it.

* Pyrogenicity testing – is generally used on rabbits to test the effectiveness of any injections, medication and vaccination and see if there is any fever causing elements. In the same way, Preclinical testing is done on rabbits, dogs and mouse for all veterinary and human medical products to test any possible long-term and short-term side effects.

Training and education testing is done on animals to teach and train anatomy to medical students.

Also, no severe testing is done when it comes to education and training testing, yet animals are used for the same.

Although, there is a huge argument between different types of animal testing and its importance in the research field, you can find strong disagreement among people against the cruelty to animals. However, a lot of cosmetic and food companies are coming out with ‘no testing done on animals’ labels to make sure that they provide a safe environment for both humans and animals.
