Types Of Operating Systems For Windows

There are actually many types of operating systems for windows and let’s discuss some of these types in this article.

Windows 1.0 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which was released by its developer, Microsoft Corporation, on the 20th of November in 1985.It was launched as the first Windows version. Windows 2.0 succeeded it. It provides a limited degree of MS-DOS multitasking programs and focuses on making a certain interaction paradigm, a model for execution and an API which is stable for future native programs.Overlapping windows are not allowed in Windows 1.0 in which all windows displayed are tiled.

Windows 2.1x – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which was designed for Intel 80386 and Intel 80286 processors. Its release was on the 27th of May in 1988. For the installation of Windows, it was then the first for the hard disk to be required.It consists of Windows/386 2.10 and Windows/286 2.10.

Windows 2.0 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which featured VGA graphics of only 16 colors. Its release was on the 9th of December in 1987 and it succeeded Windows 1.0. It allowed the overlapping of application windows. It introduced keyboard shortcuts with more sophistication and terminologies such as ‘Maximize’ and ‘Minimize.’

Windows NT 3.1 – This constitutes the first Windows NTs operating system and its release was on the 26th of July in 1993. This operating system served as the basis for all Windows NTs future releases. It has 3 major goals which include personality, reliability, and portability. For its personality, it should be capable of running applications that are designed for other operating systems like MS-DOS, OS/2 and Windows applications. For its reliabillity, resisting external attacks is its other goal.For its portablity, it should be capable of operating on many architectures.

Windows 3.0 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which followed Windows 2.1x and its release was on the 22nd of May in 1990. Its simple applications include the calculator, word processor, paint program and text editor.

Windows NT 4.0 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which followed Windows NT 3.51. Its release was on the 31st of July in 1996. It features the ‘System Policy Editor’and ‘System Policies’ concepts.

Windows NT 3.51 – Its release was on the 30th of May in 1995. Its support features include PCMCIA support, support for common controls of Windows 95, and OpenGL 3D support.

Windows 98 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which followed Windows 95. Internet Explorer is included in Windows 98. Its first release was on the 15th of May in 1998.

Windows 95 – This is one of the types of operating systems for Windows which is used in media centers, laptops, business and home desktops, and personal computers. Its first release was on the 24th of August in 2001.

Windows NT 3.5 – Speeding up the operating system was also a goal during its development. Its release was on the 21st of September in 1994.Its features include a new screen for startup, ‘I/O completion ports’ and VFAT.
