Types Of Computer Motherboards

A motherboard is actually the circuit board of the computer that plays a vital role in the entire functioning of the computer and is considered to be the backbone of the system. All the important constituents used to make a computer are linked to the motherboard. The most crucial part of the computer i.e. PC is embedded in the motherboard. All other constituents such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, and hard drives etc are connected to the motherboard with the help of cables. There are different types of computer motherboards and the classification is done on different basis. Mainly, there are two types of computer motherboards named as integrated processors and non-integrated processors.

The integrated type of computer motherboards is available with almost all the necessary parts built into them. The facilities like videos, graphics, sounds, and peripheral device slots, input output ports, and serial parallel ports are the basic constituents used in the working of a computer and are provided by the integrated motherboard. There are many advantages of integrated motherboard; however the drawbacks can’t be ignored. One of the downside of the integrated type of computer motherboards is that the entire board had to be replaced even if a single component breaks. In the same way, some of the times the expansion slots for the next upgrades of the motherboard can be determined. Due to the replacement of the entire motherboard, the integrated type of computer motherboard proves to be very expensive.

The non-integrated processors are the types of computer motherboards in which different electronic parts are individually equipped according to the requirement. Generally, the input output ports RAM and connectors etc are fastened to the motherboard with the help of expansion slots. In this type of computer motherboard, the chief constituents are not built into them. Normally, the non integrated motherboard is considered to be suitable for high performance PC users. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages of the non integrated motherboard. Unlike integrated motherboards, the non integrated motherboards have to replace or repair only the defective component which proves to be a cheaper operation. One of the downside of this motherboard is that a larger case is required which obviously needs more space. In addition, customization of the motherboard would be quite expensive, which is the usual problem of non integrated motherboard.

However, the non integrated types of computer motherboards are quite extinct as they are very expensive and are also not space efficient. The desktop motherboard is considered to be the basic type and is normally utilized in desktops and personal computers. There are many designs of the computer motherboards in which the power supply and the case type varies. ATX or advanced technology extended is the motherboard designed by Intel in order to grant a greater degree of compatibility along with an easier expansion. Other designs of computer motherboards include micro ATX, BTX, and NLX. All these designs carries several benefits and are helpful in the enhancing the overall efficiency of the entire system.
