What are the different types of communication? No matter whom you are, what you do, or where you are from, it is important that you are able to communicate. Communication is the way for a person to get understood. It is a way to convey your thoughts and express yourself. But do you know that there are many different types of communication? There are different ways to express thoughts, convey feelings, and send messages. These main types of communication are verbal, nonverbal, written, and visual.

Verbal communication is the most basic of the types of communication. This is basically communicating via talking, or speech. Verbal communication makes use of words, sounds, and languages. When it comes to verbal communication, it is important that a person is able to explore the vocabulary of a certain language. You see, there are many different languages spoken around the world. When you are traveling, it is important that you know how to speak and understand English. This is because it is considered as a general language and is spoken around the world. A form of the verbal types of communication that is very important to be learned is public speaking. As the name implies, this is basically being able to communicate to a group of people. Most of the time in public speaking, the speaker has to prepare what he is going to say via a speech. It is important that the speech is authentic and make sure that you are able to express all that you want and need to express.

Nonverbal communication is the second of the four types of communication. These are types of communication wherein the person doesn’t have to talk to express what he wants to express. In nonverbal communication, a person is to use other ways to communicate such as body motion. There are also creative nonverbal types of communication. These types are singing, dancing, and the arts. Sign language is also part of nonverbal communication. Physical contact and facial expressions are other ways to convey thoughts without speaking as well.

Written communications, well, are types of communication where one writes the message he would want to convey. There are many ways that one would need to utilize this, especially in school or at work. At school, we are taught different written communication skills. We are taught to make reports, research studies, and term papers. Through these, we will be able to express the many different things we need to in many different ways. Written communication are usually needed or required to be done when there is no time to listen to each and every person in the room. However, written communication is also used informally. An example of informal written communication is sending SMS messages.

Lastly, we have visual communication. These types of communication are usually done when verbal and written communications are not available. As the name implies, this is basically being able to communicate by showing photos, videos, and other visual displays. Also, the television, movies, and the theater is also part of visual communication.
