Types Of Personality Disorders

Personality disorders are concerns of mental health that can severely transform the way of life of an individual. These concerns can greatly affect the way an individual interferes with his immediate community as well as cause a lot of problems to other members of the society. It will then become necessary to seek medical attention when such problems arise. But before you go for a therapy, it is important to understand the different types of personality disorders and how they can be identified. Basically, these disorders are grouped under three different clusters.

Cluster 1 consists of the following types of personality disorders.

Schizotypal Personality Disorder

A person suffering from the Schizotypal Personality Disorder exhibits weird ways of dressing and talking. They sometimes talk to themselves and always tend to separate themselves from people around them. They have unpredictable behaviors as they might not react to a heated discussion or react aggressively to a simple conversation. These set of people sometimes claim to have the ability to read people’s minds and see the future.

Schizoid Personality Disorder

Patients with this kind of disorder are always aloof, shy, and introverts. They don’t express much of their feelings and have very few acquaintances. They are always engrossed with their own thinking. You can get the best out of them when you keep them in a solitary position.

Paranoid Personality Disorder

People with this type of disorder are always having a feeling of suspicion, discomfort, deceit, and distrust for others. They can get angry for no reason and can sometimes be unforgiving.

Cluster 2

Cluster 2 is characterized by the following types of personality disorders.

Antisocial Personality Disorder

People with this disorder are always guilty of disregarding the rights of other people.

This type of personality disorder is more common in less educated individuals and people in the lower income cadre. It is equally more common in men than in women. They don’t adhere to lawful behavior and social norms of the society. They are unsympathetic, deceitful, and careless of other people’s feelings. This kind of disorder often develops to what is referred as Sociopath.

Borderline Personality Disorder

As the name implies, people with this kind of condition are on the borderline of neurosis and psychosis. Research has shown that it is prevalent in women and about 2% of the population suffers from this disorder. They do not have a steady personal relationship, and are known t show random patterns of self image, behavior, and temper. They always struggle with their self identity and are regarded as having destructive tendencies.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

This type of personality disorder explains an individual that portrays a high level of self importance. They always seek attention, fantasize about their self worth, and are engrossed in the thoughts of inbound accomplishments. They are subject to criticism and their interpersonal relationships are always celf centered.

Cluster 3

Cluster 3 is made up of the following types of personality disorders

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

These sets of people are the perfectionists and the workaholics. They rely on their own efforts and are known to be highly inflexible.

Avoidant Personality Disorder

These set of people have very low self esteem. They have great fear of negative judgment and rejection of the society. Sometimes their low self esteem leads to social withdrawal.

Dependent Personality Disorder

These types of people always exhibit submissive behaviors and constantly need the reassurance of someone they feel is reliable and stronger than them. They tend to allow people to always take decisions for them and equally have the feeling of rejection.
